Thauma

Concept of the Performance :

Thauma is a journey through an amazed mind.
It works like a poetic game, in which top and bottom, background and figure, the big and the small are confused, creating different ways of seeing the same thing.
It follows the codes of the graphic novel and the theater of objects, proposing a landscape that gradually opens up, revealing its interior.
Thauma is a scenic poem focused on the ability to marvel and remain suspended in a poetic terrain that has no purpose, no conclusion, and no ending.
Thauma appeals to humor, beauty, mystery and the unexpected, to an astonishment that does not formulate thought, but can be the seed of thinking itself.

Artistic Statement

Understanding that one of the biggest problems affecting the contemporary subject is disaffection with what surrounds us, La Mula developed a piece that investigates the concept of thauma. Aristotle, in the first book of his Metaphysics, points to thauma – wonder, astonishment – as the origin of knowledge and philosophy. They conceive Thauma as a stage poem. A piece to discover a different point of view of things assumed. Awe (astonishment) entails a break with the world, a split, a radical feeling of strangeness in the face of known reality.  They are interested in perception and playful game, generating a curious look from the viewer. Someone once said “Do politics, because if you don’t, someone will do it for you and probably against you”, they say: “Let’s imagine, because if we don’t, someone will imagine for us, and probably against us”.
