Claudia Shimwa

Biography

Claudia SHIMWA is a Rwandan performer, poet, actress and an independent theater-maker. With a degree in theater, she develops collaborations and explores possibilities that make her a multidisciplinary artist and traditional Rwandan dancer. She has worked with various national and international companies and is skilled at navigating between physical theater, theater for young audiences, and street theater.
Her work on the issues of memory and transmission led her to write her first theatrical and poetic play, Le Silence qui Sait Tant (The Silence that Knows So Much). With this creation, she dares to initiate an exchange between two generations, questioning silence in Rwandan society. Today, she aspires to stage this text and wishes to experiment with a dramaturgy combining theater, poetry, and movement.
