Jiann Woo

Biography

Jiann Woo (b. 1994) is a theatre director, playwright, and performer. She studied Russian literature and oriental painting at Seoul National University and is pursuing an MFA in theatre directing at Korea National University of Arts.
Woo aims to create ruptures in the existing world with humor, vulgarities, and destructive sorrow. Centering the abject, embodied experiences of queers, youth, women, and the disabled, her work «Sweethurt»(2024) links micro-level, self-confessional stories to a universal world to address grief encompassing society at large. Her works including «Far Away, Uhru Will be Late»(2022) have taken place at Seoul Museum of Art and National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea.
She is a member of the performing arts collective Antimoominclub (AMC).
