Biography

Larisa Faber was born in a country that doesn’t exist anymore, the year Chernobyl
blew up and photography was still in black/white. She is an award-winning writer/
director exploring sociopolitical subjects with goofiness and a dash of surrealism. Her
latest shows won Best New Show (Luxembourg Theatre Awards) and the Fortuna
Diploma (Kaunas City Theatre Awards). As a published writer, commissions include
texts for The Guardian, Centre National de Littérature, UCL European Institute and
Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, a.o. Upcoming: WHITE GOLD a show about and
by white asparagus and seasonal asparagus pickers, opening in Luxembourg and
London this November. She’s associate artist at neimënster (LU).

The Land We Shared

The Land We Shared is an auto-fictional play, asking: how do you know who you are,
if you don’t confront who you come from? It’s about growing up in Romania’s
dictatorship, with bare shelves, and moving to Luxembourg, with stacked shelves. It’s
about having to go back and confront your roots, getting lost in the Romanian
wilderness and turning into a massive cabbage (while singing an ode to cabbage
rolls).
The show’s visuals embrace the duality of stark absence and rich memories: a bare
stage – save for a drum kit, placed on a movable platform, and a double bass. One
large linen sheet doubling up as a flag, a backpack and a shroud. One (initially
hidden) chunky cabbage costume suspended in the rig, revealing itself during the
show’s climax. With visceral live music, catchy songs and a razor-sharp soundscape.
A tender coming-of-age story about grief in times of historical amnesia.
